I had to travel to Nairobi to meet with partners and attend some meetings. There are 2 possibilities of getting there: 9 hours driving or 1-3 hours flight (depending on the number of stopovers). I chose flying – and it was worth it:
Not only the 2 stops we made in Korr respectively Wamba were impressing but the crew was just fun! Telling stories why he is so tired the captain knew to entertain! He warned us that the landing in Korr could become a bit rough as he did not fly there in a long time. But when we flew over the village he and his co-pilot were both looking for the airstrip. He even announced through the speakers: “If anyone can tell us where we can find the airstrip, please raise your hand!”
In the end we landed smoothly on the stony airstrip and soon we had many visitors who apparently never saw an aeroplane before, including an old but beautiful Samburu woman. In Wamba we had to touch-and-go – whilst de co-pilot took pictures of the landing attempt – because there were some animals or people on the airstrip.
In the following we passed by Mt. Kenya in a distance of only 2 miles, but the visibility was zero due to the clouds we were flying through. Hope to see it next time!
